Although most of those exercise shows you watch dealing in fat loss are mostly centered around cardio, weight training for weight loss is actually one of the most effective ways people can lose those stubborn pounds, especially if they are significantly overweight and have trouble getting into any type of cardio regimen.
Weight training for weight loss obviously is not the first choice of most dieters. More often than not, people weight train in order to put on muscle, not to lose fat; but due to the huge metabolism boost people receive by completing low to mid-impact weight training, a well regulated weight lifting regimen can be far more effective at burning fat than other types of exercise.
If you are obese and have trouble doing classic cardio and/or aerobic exercises, do not turn to weight loss medications or dangerous surgical procedures to lose those pounds until you have first tried to implement weight training.
Benefits of Weight Training
For individuals with limited mobility or an inability to perform classic exercises, for whatever the reason(s), weight training has plenty of advantages.
- Extremely low-impact if you need it: Most people can train with weights in a sedentary position. With nothing more than a dumbbell, an individual can begin weight training and boost their metabolism just as high as it would get with light cardio
- A great launching pad: Some individuals only need to get started, to get their engines running, and then they can begin a more rigorous exercise regimen. Weight training is still a great exercise that will make you feel great and help you to lose weight. A few months of light weight training and you may be ready for another level
- Easy exercises: Lifting does not require much effort on your part; it doesn’t “feel” like a classic exercise. As long as you’re lifting lightly and are not maxing out, there are dozens of training positions you can do at any size or almost in any condition
Using weights to lose weight is one of the most underrated forms of exercise out there today. As long as you keep it light, do not work the same muscle groups every day, and avoid eating a lot of protein or a lot of high caloric food, you can tone your muscles lightly while shedding pounds of fat.
